You say, Wake up and I believe a lot of people are...the tea party and the occupiers are good examples...problem is, they are DIVIDED...spawned from separate ideologies so they became enemies instead of allies...curious thing is, they want virtually the same thing, which is to get our country back from those who are destroying it...

The rats are invading because the cheese is easy pickins', so we get greedy rats instead of statesmen who make themselves into CAREER POLITICIANS...THAT, my friend is the enemy of democracy and THAT is what we can stop by outting the incumbent at every voting cycle...don't leave them in long enough to achieve the arrogance of power...take away the cheese...SC had Fritz Hollings and Strom Thurman as Sr Senators FOR DECADES!!...it's OUTRAGEOUS!!...THESE TWO PEOPLE GOT SO FILTHY RICH AS PUBLIC SERVANTS (HA!)...not to mention the POWER they wielded...it's absurd...and and unfortunately a good example of what WE the people should NEVER ALLOW...election cycles=term limits...voting your party line=career politicians...
Take away the cheese and the rats will quit coming...and they will be replaced by sincere statesmen...as much as it turns your stomach, vote the incumbent out every time...if politics were not such a nasty business, I believe Colin Powell would be president or candidate...I'd run to the polls to vote for him...but he's not gonna lower himself to sludging around in the political sewer that has become today's ruling parties...vote 'em out...I don't think it'll take as long as you fear...

Actually, I heard a nice answer on the TV the other day.. It was on some late night show...don't recall which one...but the person said (and I wholeheartly agree) that the quickest answer to getting rid of the career politicians is to simply pass a law that states that anyone that serves a term is banned from holding any other Federal office again for life. (You can stagger the elections for Congressmen and Senators so there is always continuity within the houses). The only exception is the office of president, who can serve 2 terms, and then is banned for life from any other office. Oh, and they do NOT get the nice cushy pensions for life at full pay that they get now. They become John and Jane Doe again in the private sector with no special perks. And the way you change the law is you require anyone running for office to sign a contract BEFORE being elected that they will vote for the law once they are elected or they must resign. Kinda sounds too simple, but boy, it makes a lot of sense.
