The 5.8 is probably a 351 Windsor motor, very similar to the old 5.0 engine, but with higher deck height. The heads and cams are slightly different but will interchange to a 5.0 or 302 in cid. I've pulled a V20 with much less, that 5.8 should be plenty if it's running right unless it's a victim of a 3.00 gear ratio as many were.

Ford did make lots of variations on their motors, in just the 5.8 they made a Windsor, Cleveland and Modified.
