Default Toggin' 9/30/07

Tautog or blackfish as they are also called are found around rocks, wrecks or other bottom structure. The most common bait around here is live green crabs. Smaller ones we used whole, larger ones are cut in half. It is funny how a half green crab will still try and pinch you.

I went out with my fishing buddy Sunday to try "toggin" for the first time. He hooked up right away after we anchored up near a local landmark, Latimer Lighthouse. In fact, his first hookup was a double-header, both keepers. I was starting to wonder what I was doing wrong after he had 4 in the box and I had caught nothing. I came back strong and finished with 4 decent keepers of my own while he did not get any more. The bite was getting pretty hot when we hit our limit (4 each) and ran out of crabs.

Sadly, my bonehead fishing partner has no clue how to take a picture with a digital camera so the only pictures are the ones I took.

Fish is was delicious for dinner!
