I just bought a 2004 Yamaha 225 4 stroke with all controls SS prop and all gauges for $7000 and it has just 200 hours on it.

That said I would not go more then a 150 hp in a 4 stroke as the weight is unreel!! 600 + pounds for my 225!!

When re powering these older boats they were never meant for these 4 strokes! I would go with a same year or older good motor or if new a Etec, they much lighter!

I just took a 175 merc 2.4 off my boat, early 90's and ran like a champ and great gas mileage.
Thats what I be looking for instead od a 2.5 or gas hog 3.0!!
And I know a lot of guys all love to add 200 + HP but these boats do great with a nice 150 on them! above that its just a waste of the little you gain in speed and gas.
