RB I had the same thing happen with my old 70 hp rude. Took the dang thing apart 2x to make sure I had the impeller paddles in the right direction. Finally I realized it was the salt crystals and after that I could not beat the thing in a pissin contest.

Earlier this year after a long winter's nap I took dad's 14 mckee to the lake. Cranked it up and no tell tell stream? After inspecting the output hole I notice it was gunked up with what looked like grey/black chewing gum looking stuff. I took the hose off from under the cowel, popped out the nipple for better access, straightened a fishing hook (bent barb) and removed the obstruction. I still don't know what that stuff was but it was fine after that?
