I do not think you need to get as close as possible to the Max H.P. I was just thinking the 100 would be a cheap way to get you out on the water, and would definitely be a better option than the old 60 h.p. Gale you were thinking about. I think you are right that a 150-200 h.p. outboard would be WAY better than the old starflite 100, but if you're just looking to get on the water, on a plane, and at the lowest possible price, the starflite and controls you already have fit that bill.
