Alex, it depends on what you want to do and how fast you want to go. Speaking from experience, a 60 hp anything is not enough to get a V20 on plane, so if you want to go fast get a bigger hp engine. That said, any engine (including a 2 1/2 hp British Seagull) will move the boat at trolling speed or a little faster. But for safely moving on the great lakes I'd want an engine that could make my boat really move towards shore in a hurry if needed. Lake Superior has a reputation for swallowing boats and people.
