The part about "not being able to see anything in the clear bowl" is BS.
If there is trash or water in there why wouldn't you be able to see it? The water will separate to the bottom so you should be able to see it. I've never had any water in my tank so I haven't seen any. I use the drain on the clear bowl to drain the racor element into a clear container to be sure and so inspect it better than just looking through the clear bowl. The drain is more important to me than the clear bowl but both are valuable IMO. I drain it often. I also replace the element 1 time per year.
