Yep. NEVER just hold your boat on your trailer with the winch cable. Once you get the boat secured attach a chain from your trailer winch post to the bow eye. I think it's actually required in some states.

(Speaking personally, I have both transom straps and a belly strap. 9 times out of ten I just use the belly strap. Mine is the ratchet type and I can get a real snug hold. Transom straps look cool, but they are a pain (IMHO) to put on).
