I replace my filter with a racore 10mm and I replace the filter every spring! It also has a plastic bottom so you can see when and if you get water in the gas, you just open the bottom screw and drain the water. Good to go!
I also agree that if it is a new to you boat, and you are not sure on the gas, DRAIN it! Nosence taking the chance of killing the motor or the carbs cause of some one else right out of the gate!

I just bought a new to me 2004 4 stroke Yamaha, I drained 100 gallons of mixed gas out of my boat this week and filled with all new gas and new filter
