doing this from memeory, but put your meter on the ohm scale and touch one lead to the center post and other to the outer flange where the ground wire connects. move ther float up and down and the meter should go up or down with the float.

best thing to do is fill up, set your gps trip set to 0 , take a trip and fillup on return and figure you mileage. i haven't had a guage your 10 years and can tell you within 3 gallons when i fill up.
