In 01 they are pretty hit or miss wether you got a good one or not. It wasn't until late 02 when BRP took over and got quality control in check and got most of the bugs worked out. For those particuliar engines it is worth spending the money to take them to a EVINRUDE dealer that knows and understands the FICHTS and have them checked over properly top to bottom. Also get a warranty print-out and see what has been done to em over the years.
