I'm sure some of our brothers on this site can attest to my premise, but (and please correct me if I'm wrong) profiling is the basis of all good police work. And by police work, I would include all phases from the highest levels of government to the guys pounding the streets to protect and serve we the citizens. Profiling should include all the tools available to them including race, gender, nationality, weight, height, whatever needed.
If a convenience store is robbed and the police are called, they need to know as many details of the person that committed the crime. They can do nothing to help us with, "it was a person of middle age that made off with my cash register".
If me, being a slightly overweight(

) white male is seen frequenting a neighborhood that's predominately made up of drug dealers of color, what would you assume I am doing there. Buying drugs right? So there's a safe argument that if the police do their job and stop me for questioning and I'm subsequently arrested for possession of drugs, the police have effectively done their job to help stop crime in the neighborhood.
My point is; I support all aspects of effective profiling if it makes us safer
