I have an Evinrude 9.9 kicker I mounted on my V and I am very pleased with the results. I did not get it for an auxillary motor purpose. I simply wanted a small motor under 15 HP to be able to troll slowly for stripers with tube & worm. The 9.9 can troll as slow as .4 MPH and WOT she pushes the V at 6 MPH so it's no speed demon for sure. It does not weigh all that much so it does not add any significant weight to the transom. I even tapped into my main tanks so I do not have to carry any additional fuel tanks for the kicker. However I am confident that under certain circumstances it would get me back to dock as an auxillary motor. For a slow trolling kicker motor it works fantastic and she trolls all day long without hardly using any fuel whatsoever.
