Excellent idea getting the hooks snelled ahead of time!
I'm just concerned the crimping is gonna be even more aggravation to have to put up with.
One knot my father showed me that has a lot of practicable purposes is the Surgeons Loop (from the sites that spare posted).
It's not an exceptionally strong knot but it is a quick knot that can be tied in rough seas, in the dark or when your hands and/or eyes don't want to cooperate.
