Depends on what year is which model. For the most part the coastal has the floor without the raised helm area and just a standard V-BERTH only cabin. The 248 SPORTSMAN from 81-early 86 has the step up helm area, the v-berth, and then the 2 1/4 berth bunks under the helm area. Mid year 86+ they took the starboard 1/4 berth out and put in a stand-up head on that side of the cabin and turned the area under the helm into storage bins. The standard 248 layout continued till about 91 when they changed the deck layout and cabin arrangement on the sportsman to be more like the coastal. The 248 sportsman has a HUGE cabin are even for many 28 footers. Theres room enough for an actual adult to stand up, or sleep 4 actual people. It is a good in between boat, or great for the family weekender. The coastal is more geared towards fishing.
