Mostly depends on the boat size to the size of what is pulled. 
As teenagers we were able to ski behind a 25hp McKee type boat with a Y-harness and floating roller attached to the rear lifting eyes, then the rope attached to that. All this did was reduce or stop the irratic tugging on the boat by centering the weight.
