You have to put the bracket on the transom according to what size shaft you are running.
As some one that has had a bracket on a V20 I would go with nothing less then a 25" shaft!!

You measure from the bottom of the boat up to were the motor will sit on the bracket. Some will tell you that you raise the motor up 1" for ever 12" back you go. I never did that and was fine. But in your case with a 24" set back that means 2" which isn't anything to worry about!
