Re: Capsized V20 for sale - CHEAP

YUCK :o! INteresting that both are open transom outboards. I wonder if they were pointed the wrong way relative to the wind and took water over the transom? From what I've read, that's the most...

Re: Bracket manufacturers

Wheras Gil got right back to me, I have not yet heard a peep from Armstrong *>:(. Good luck Victore.

That was a great article, but..... "The engine thrust will be applied with a longer moment arm...

Re: 115 hp to little hp?

I can't believe I missed this thread. Barhopper, I have a 112hp Sea Drive on my '86 Step Lift. It eventually gets up on a plane and I could pull a tube, but I definately wouldn't be able to pull a...

"cakemixer", I love it! If I call it that maybe my wife will let me keep it in the kitchen. LOL

Re: Bracket manufacturers

Good stuff chumbucket. Thanks for the info. I'll post a $ if I get a quote from Armstrong as it seems lots of people are asking questions about brackets. Hopefully it will be useful to others. I'm...

Re: Bracket manufacturers

Gotcha. My motor still runs fine, I'm just ready to up the oomph from 112hp or so to 150-200. Does one sea drive bracket fit all size outboards or were there different brackets for the V6s than for...

Re: Bracket manufacturers

I just received the following email from Gil: "A single Gil bracket would cost $1075. They are available in white, off-white and black. You can order these directly from us at 800-486-0999. There is...

Re: Outboard VS I/O

I don't troll much, but my buddies with outboards that do use kicker motors.

Re: Bracket manufacturers

What chumbucket said. I pulled out my OMC service manual this morning and chumbucket is spot on. The pivot point is way up on the top of the transom which enables the whole motor (and I have an...

Re: Bracket manufacturers

The Sea Drive is pretty unique. My motor tilts completely out of the water and the set back is still less than 12" (maybe I need to go down and measure to be sure). For sure though, the boat overall...

Re: Bracket manufacturers

I'm not sure of the physics, but the Sea Drive on my boat now is nowheres near a 30" set back. It's more like 6-12" max. I don't think my marina would let me keep my slip with a 30" set back as my...

Re: Bracket manufacturers

Thx Bigshrimpin. Considering putting the Sea Drive out to pasture :'(, we'll see how she fires up in the spring. Lower unit fluid was milky when I changed it for winterizing. No big deal on its own,...

Bracket manufacturers

Does anybody out there know of bracket manufacturers other than Armstrong and Gil? Any idea of cost (I have a full transom already so no glassing required)? Thanks.

Re: Livewells??

I don't fish with bait much, but the livewell forward of the well I mentioned in an earlier post has a bilge pump in it to drain the water. The aft well drains into my bilge.

Re: Livewells??

My '86 has a baitwell below the deck at the stern where a non-bracket outboard well would be (I have a bracket).

Re: 225 or 250 HP too much???

I'm surpised on that 240hp rating too. My '86 is rated max at 235. I don't recall a 240 hp outboard ever being produced! Maybe your looking at I/O max rating? But I would say, the 235 hp of '86 (or...

Re: Chumbucket pics

Seakindly, you forgot one option on what to do when you're headed for the rocks! Just hit them! When I was drifting toward the rocks of a jetty one night this summer and my Sea Drive wouldn't start,...

Re: Winter doldrums?

I bought a 1.5 hp Johnson and the corresponding manuals and me and my 4 year old are going to tear it down and put it back together in the garage. That way we'll be even better at working on my gem...

Re: Capsizing

Though I've never seen it happen to a V-20 specifically, just like any other outboard, a V-20 with an outboard would capsize once it filled with enough water. When an outboard swamps, for whatever...

Some Pics

I finally put a couple pics in the gallery (thanks T), just teasers really since the boat is covered, but I wanted to put something on this page. I'll get better ones up come spring.

Re: Long_Island V-20

The "drains" on both sides of the cockpit look like through hulls to me - rather than scuppers - as they each have nipples to attach a hose to behind the bulkhead. So I could attach a hose to both...
