Better yet I think I'm going to seal the lid with 5200 then cut out a hole and fit a water proof hatch in it. It will make the hole smaller but I think it will be big enough to get the batteries in...

Bradford has it right.?it is a cover in the splashwell. The cover may be large enough to seal it then put a waterproof hatch in/on top of it.
