One more reason to not trust a VRO

Found this one on another site, the VRO fuel pump quit pumping so the owner kept pumping the primer bulb to keep fuel to it to get home. Well when you pump the primer bulb you get gas ONLY, no oil. And then this can eventually happen.

But is that the fault of the VRO or the owner??

looks like a nice melted 60 degree there. i think the moral of the story here is just because it work doesnt mean you should do it. (pumping the bulb)

Well the initial failure was the VRO pump, but the owner took it to another level with trying to limp in. And yep, they said on the outside it was a nice 2000 150 JOHNSON, pulled the heads and found this throughout.

Found another VRO victim picture to strike fear. Looks like it did some damage too, same cylinder as the other one.

Very
Risky
Operation

Yeah I know, I have a boat that is still oil injected. I actually removed it from my MERCURY on my flats boat, when I put it up for sale everybody kept complaining about it being removed. So I put it back on for a guy because he said he would buy it if I did. Well I still have it, and will be removeing it yet again if it doesn't sell soon.
