lowering your bow rail

I know a few people here have chopped down the bow rail and I've been wanting to do the same. Is it as simple as just cutting off a couple of inches off the upright mounts? I basically want to lower it to 1/2, or slightly less, than the height it is now. It appears that if it gets lowered it will also need to move back [toward the windshield] a bit. The more I stare at it the more confused I get. I just don't want to open a can of worms and mistakenly change the geometrics of everything and having it not work at all. Also, is the rail one solid piece? I've got the standard stock rail [86 cuddy] w/ the four up-right supports. Each support has a "T" or three way fitting and is screwed together which, to me, suggests that they are individual pieces. Screwed together doesnt sound like it would be to strong but it is very sturdy.....like it could be one piece. Anyway, I'm looking for a little more input before I jump into this. Thanks fellas.

Its all one piece!!

Cutting and lowering is all you should need to do. But there is a possibility it might have t go back a little??

Thats easy!! just need to pull the 2 screws on each side out, it is thru bolted so some buddy under to hold while you loosen up top. slide back and re drill the holes.

Very easy job!!

Even easier just removing it completely.:sly:
Nobody needs to ride up there anyway.

Yeah, I thought it would be one piece. O.K. I guess I'm gonna go for it

I agree to remove them. They get in the way landing fish and it adds more excitment while riding in ruffer water.

Well, nothing earth shattering, but I have loosened all the ss screws and it's ready for removal.....no cutting as of yet. I think Franco cut his down as well as another member. I don't recall his name, but he had a nice clean V out on the west coast Wash. state?, Oregon? Dug it up in a search. I will take pics, but will have to wait for one of my younger nieces or nephews to do the download.....I'm on this site 3yrs. and have posted no pics on my own....LOOSER. The high rail make the boat look a bit dated,IMO, completely off looks o.k., for me , I would like it just lower.

So whats going on?? did you get it finished?? Throw it away?? Inquiring minds want to know!!

MJ, I've changed gears once again....I'm going to do the kicker motor bracket project first....fall fishing will be here before we know it and I want it done before then. I've only had the V out 4-5 times this summer and of those, only fished it once.No keeper fluke, only one keeper bass[28" exactly] piles of small blues. I'm smokin' busy w/ work and every weekend some other social event pops up.It sucks. This coming sept., oct., nov., that's all gonna change....we better have a good fall run!
