Yamaha F200TXR
Need serious advise. 225HP Evenrude died this weekend. Considering a 200HP Yamaha 4 stroke but concerned about the weight 583lbs. Going to 200HP HPDI only gets the weight down to 475#. Use boat for cruising, water skiing and tubes.
Anyone made the jump to a F200TXR ? Thanks |
I am sorry why are you staying with that size motor, do you need that much extra power for what you do?

Theres a thread floating around here somewhere reagrding a member who hung a 225 HONDA on a V-20 center console. It turned out BADLY! He ended up selling the boat and buying another one and repowering with an ETEC. The new BIG 4 strokes are ALOT of weight for a hull designed around 400 pound 2 strokes.
What happened to your EVINRUDE? Maybe it's a simple fix. I just got through rebuilding one(didn't take any pics though), they are not that bad to do. You can still buy ALOT of gas for what a new engine will set you back. If your set on a 4 stroke, a 150 YAMAHA, 150 HONDA, or a 140, 150, 175 SUZUKI would be a good match |

The engine itself is great. Loads of power, hole shot and fairly quiet for a 2-stroke. I don't ride it hard, and I typically burn 4-5 GPH. I will say that with the advances made with the HPDI, I might have done better to go with a 150. Of course, the only way to know for sure is to find a V-20 with an HPDI 150 on it and go for a ride, and I wasn't able to do that. What's done is done and I'm very please with my Yamaha. |
I'd get a Johnzuki 140 4 stroke and never look back.......well, you look back now and then just to see if the darn thing is still there cause its so quiet.
Mine weighs 410 pounds. |
I have a 175 mercury on my V20 and it is too fast. I am looking to repower with a used 140 johnsuki but they are not longer made. I have done a alot of reseach and the suzuki 4 stroke seems it be the best bang for the buck. The 140 is a inline 4 cylinder that is where you save weight. I would go with a 115 before I went with a 225 even if money was not a concern. If you plan on sking check out the suzuki 175. My mercury 175 will get airbourn if I hit some chop just right. I think the 175hp is a little touch power for a fishing boat. if you get a 225 4 stroke make sure you have good insurance and recent survey.

You can still get a 140 Johnson, it just says Suzuki on it.

i can vouch for this, if you put major weight on the rear of your V, trim tabs are a must and get teh big ones. with out my trim tabs my boat would ride like crap/
