Marine Tex
i cant stand this crap.
this is the 3rd time i've used it and i just cant get the right mixture. they say you have a 10% margine of error but it just wont set. i dont need the whole thing but i might have to just to get the right stuff. |
What are you fixing with it? I have had good luck with the west systems fiberglass repair kits, just throw in some 406 to thicken it up and you can use it for almost anything.

Had the same problems!! I just mix the whole bottle now and its perfect every time Just fix a bunch of stuff at same time.

I've been using fiberglass gel paste for my small repairs lately. It is athick gel right out of the can, and can be pigmented to match. Plus it uses standard MEK hardner, so use a little extra and work it quick.

Charlie, stop right there. I know what your problem is. You aren't holding your mouth right.

He's just to good lookin for the stuff, he scares it into submission:you:.

y'know, i just cant see using the whole bottle for the one or two repairs i need here and there.
i removed one of my rod holders on the transom and wanted to plug the hole so i could mount a downrigger. so i cut a plug and mixed up some marine tex to stick it in there. i plan on glassing over when it hardens, but the crappity crap just wont harden. so i just went around the rim with some gorilla glue and if we ever get any more sun here i will stick a quick sheet or glass on the bottom and do my stuff on the top. why wellcraft put rod holders there, i'll never know. last time i tried to mix some up, i wanted to afix some stainless studs into the ends of my trim rams so i could throw some extra zincs on there. that was the beginning of last season. . . . it should harden any day now. |
I have used a ton of Formula 27 to fill holes on my V, its the bondo of the marine world!! I used it am lot!! But it needs to be top coated with paint or what ever as it will absorb water.
