Fuel Gauge not working

I ran all new hoses to the tank and grounded the fuel sender to the stainless fill cap. Then ran pos/neg from sender to gauge, then to pos/neg busbar. Ran all new wires and hooked up the switch/relay/new dash and turned the key.........FIRED UP. I danced and did shots of Cold Makers Mark then noticed the only thing not working was the fuel gauge!!!!??? WTF................it worked when I diconnected it. Where did I go wrong?

Who cares they are over rated any way!! I can tell when I run out of gas all by myself!! :nut:

I have never had a working gauge on my boats, they are never right any way! I never use more then 20 gal a trip 99.9999 % of the time and I hold 60 gal, so as long as I filled up after every trip I A OK.

The new boat has 110 gal gas so I am sure I never going to worry there either.

make sure the wires arent crossed and it does have power.

Till you post a pic of yours

The gauge had terminals for “S” sending unit, “G” ground and “I” ignition or hot and a wire to the dash light bulb.

Fused hot goes to "I" ( connected to anything of your preference)
Ground from battery and sending unit goes to "G" (black wire)
Wire from terminal at center of sender goes to "S". (red wire)
Dash lights to bulb wire.

mj on my new tank when I filled it ,I checked the guage as I filled .to start off its 61 gallons.

@30 gallons the gauge read about 5/16 th
@45 gallons the gauge read about 9/16 th
@55 gallons it read 7/8 th
@60 gallons it read full

Because of the contour of the tank it dosent read like you would figure sorta like a trick question ....lol
so when Iam out for a trip and come back to dock and the gauage reads a 1/2 tank I know Ive really only burned about 15 gallons and really have 45 in the tank......

Lumber, only choices are to do like you done (mental note) or get an adjustable one and do the same.
The belly tanks aren't easy to get the gauge/volume to jibe.
