silencer box
did any one ever remove the silencer box from there motor?
its the metal case with tubes that surround the carbs i have a 1988 150 black max mercury o b thats what my trim selenoid is attached to |
Unless you plan on re-jetting it, don't do it. It does more than just silence the intake noise. It also directs and restricts the airflow to the engine to balance the air fuel ratio across the RPM band. I did it to one before, ran AWESOME for about 30 seconds under load. Then all HELL let loose:cen::nut:. Wouldn't reccomend it on a feeshin motor. The manufacturer normally set them up pretty good for longevity and performance. @ strokes are not as forgiving as a 4 stroker.

the reason i have to remove it is that the trim selenoid is bolted to it and the bolts are facing back so the only way to get to it is to remove the box
i just never did it before and am nerviuos about it you know something that should be easy never is |
I thought you were talking about running it with it removed. Since I know what your doing, it isn't a big deal normally to get the silencer box off. I don't have a MERC in your year range, but on my 93 and 95 the trim relays are mounted to the very rear of the engine on an aluminum plate.
