Bathroom remodel
My son bought a house built in 1955. It's bathroom had pink tile with black trim. I say had because we tore all the tile and wet plaster out except the ceiling. The sub floor is 1 x 6s run diagonally. We are going to use 1/2 inch backerboard and then thinset tile for the floor. My question is this. Should any type of subflooring be put down before the backer board? Thanks Billy Mac
Here is the bathroom before. I'll post the tear out photo tomorrow. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...IMG_0732-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...y/P1010001.jpg |
sounds like a nice project billy , If your gonna put down 1/2 inch backer board use thin set under the backer board and use a 1/4 inch knotched trowel

oh going over the t&g shoud be fine , I would renail it before hand tho

LS your reply says to use thinset under the backer board. Why? I hope our project will look as good as yours. Billy Mac

putting the thinset under the backer board makes it super strong and it will keep the floor from flexing and causing the grout and or tile from cracking ..
mainly because you are going over 1x material if you were putting down a layer of plywood you could probabaly get away with out it |
we did the same type project last year(we had lime green tile).we had to replace stud's and all flooring including joist. its amazing what a little water leak can if you ignore it for 12 years..... its also amazing you can spend 4 grand in a room that is 4x12.

My house is only 13 years old and the tile in my foyer is cracking all over the place. They laid the tile right over plywood! So, I'm going to redo that too. Oh well, the projects are never ending... |

I HATE tile work...Ive done all my tile myself and can do it well, but I HATE it! lol |
