starboard/seaboard question
 

does anyone know if you could use 3/4" starboard to replace the fuel tank cover. My boat is an 86 cuddy, I don't have the winter cover off yet but I would say that cover is approx 32"-34"wide x 48" long. I'm sure I could get it done the conventional method [plywood, resin ,re-glass etc.] just don't feel like fussing around w/ all that material. Also if s.b. can be used, can it be painted? [light grey]

Yes you can use it and it will be fine! No you can't paint it But if you go with Seaboard instead of Starboard you will have more colors to pick from and its normaly a little cheaper.

There was another thread of someone wanting to do the samething, I forgot who?? (My mind shot) They also have a non slip version now. But I did not find it to be all that slipery on mine, but I always wear boots when I am out there.

thank you MJ, I knew there was a similar thread not to long ago. I'm going to give that seaboard co. a shout. Another thought is these "plastics" don't like to be siliconed.....does that mean I cannot run a nice bead of UV silicone to seal the hatch?

Kama, you're right. However doing it the conventional way is no free-be either. As long as it is an effective, proper repair, I don't mind shelling out a little extra and not have to mess around w/ the other materials and the time involved.[ Time is money too]

You can seal with a bead of caulking!! Cause it is just a seal, but if you were trying to glue it or something like that there is no real streanth and would fail!
