I had the 5.3 triton, wait till you have to get to the rear lt side to replace the coil that keeps popping! They are know for it!!

What year is yours?? Mine was 98 and it had the thin heads were they kept blowing the plugs out the hole! the fix is a helcoil, try getting that in before you have to get the plug in!!

There was a right up were a guy lifted the cab off the frame to do this job!! Said it was the easiest way!

Thats when I git rid of my blazer and went Ford when I said I should not, I was right!! 1 year to the day I traded it for my current Chevy, I no ever going to do that again!

I volunteered to change them for him knowing it was going to be a pain (so naturally it’s his fault).
Worried about the lack of his mechanical aptitude and the cost to do it, figured I could do it a little along.
On this particular model the plugs go straight down and are deep below the valve covers to the center of the engine and the boots are about 6” long.
Got 5 in so far, figured do the “easiest” ones first.

This is the "easy" one to replace.
The 12" extension with the sparkplug socket is resting on the top of the plugwire boot which is about 6" deep into the motor, then the plug is nestled down there in the pitches of ford hell.

Pull the motor and replace with a 350 smallblock.

I agree with all of ya'll.
We've got a "97 F150 with a 4.2l for a work truck.
About every year for the last four years it keeps busting the vibration damper. I've almost got it down patt extracting the broken piece without removing the timing cover.

Sounds like the wifey "busting the vibration damper"; and she usually doesn't wear any timing covers. :zip:
