Internal antenna
Has anyone used a gps with the internal antenna when it and the fish finder set close to each other?
I'm planning on buying a new color gps and 1 of the gps reps told me in the next couple of years ones with internal antenna is all you will be able to buy unless you buy a expensive model. I was wondering if the internal antenna model would have interference if it set close to the fish finder? |
Having played with the external antenna on mine, the aggrivated loss of signal should be only if covered by a bimini top or foreign stuff.
There is no reason the internal antenna should be an issue other than expected complications. A T top with the antenna mounted on it would solve the problems (so would hitting the lottery). Personally, I like the internal antenna's. Less crap to deal with. BTW mine is the old Humminbird Matrix style. |
Ive seen gps antennas mounted in all the wrong places with suprising good results

You won't have any issues due to proximity to the fish finder. I have never experienced a problem with internal antennas under biminis or T Tops either.

Sorry Guys but I must be thick as a brick, I didn't understand; I was wondering if I got a gps with a internal antenna (inside of it) and the fish finder is mounted next to it, if it (gps) would receive as well as a gps with the external antenna mounted away from the fish finder?

Like chum said, there shouldn't be any problems.

I've run my garmen handheld GPS with an internal antenna in all sorts of crazy places including leaning on the front of a fish finder, it never misses a lick unless under metal like in the middle of a car.

OK Thanks everyone

Same here - Garmin handheld laying right next to Furuno fishfinder/gps. I don't have the card for my area for the Furuno and it's about $200+, so I use the handheld, and it works perfectly.

I cheated and got one of the Garmin combo units. Love it.
