hoisting motor?
I sware I saw an eye or something on the top of my 140 Johnson when they were building it. I went looking for it last night and couldn't find anything.
My A frame is set up. How do I hook the come along to the motor to hoist it? This site is great, thanks for all the advice. |
Re: hoisting motor?
They remove the eye bolt after installation. It goes on the mainshaft on top of the flywheel.

Re: hoisting motor?
I THOUGHT THAT MIGHT BE THE CASE. I SAW THE HOLE WITH THREADS. WHERE CAN I GET ONE OF THOSE EYE BOLTS?

Re: hoisting motor?
I just took a heavy duty towing strap and made a couple of vertical rounds around the motor paying special attention to making sure it would stay in the vertical position once taken off the boat. When done, I had one end of the strap on the port side and one on the starboard side. Hooked both ends to the hoist and lifted it up.

Re: hoisting motor?
That works too. Hardware stores or Home Cheapo should have eye bolts.

Re: hoisting motor?
WE'LL SEE HOW IT WORKS OUT. I BOUGHT A COUPLE EYE BOLTS AND DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL FIT YET. I ALSO GOT A HEAVY DUTY RATCHET STRAP THAT I MAY USE.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP. TOM |
Re: hoisting motor?
I lifted my 390 poun Yamaha with a tow strap. But it is tricky!! It is so top heavy it will tilt if not careful!!

Re: hoisting motor?
I went nuts and did it last night. Used the strap tecnique. It worked but I wish I had tried the eye bolt. I almost lost it but had some rope and straps around to pull it where I wanted. Anyway, I just want to fix this durn thing so I can concentrate on more important things (striper, trout, flounder, blues, redfish, etc.).
Thanks for all the help. |
