For those of us who have bottom paint and hate it. I'm going to prep my transom before I put my motor back on. I sanded of a section of the bottom paint (as a test) and wet sanded it back out, hand buffed it, came out nice. Unfortunatly I have a couple broken of scews and more stress cracks around them. Just think, only about 100,000 more square inches to go. It's not on my list of things to do before going fishing again though.

How many layers of paint you got there??

I have not done mine cause I no I have like 10 coats if not more!! Its going to be a nightmare if I ever decide to take it off!!

But it is something I would like to do someday??

I'm not sure how many layers of paint there are. I know that it is quite a bit heavier above the waterline (not worn off). I sanded another section this evening. The next section I do I will try to figure out how many layers. That stuff doesn't sand worth a hoot, but it's not that hard to get that shine back.

I have about 2 or 3 coats on my hull. I am going to get it all off evetually. I did the transom by scraping off the heavy layer with a razor blade followed by wet block sanding with a sheetrock screen, 1500 wet paper & finally white compound. Results look great. Arms a little tired.
A buddy of mine said to use some type of stripper. Have not tried that yet but I may at some point. For now, I will try and wear the rest of it off, one gallon of gas at a time.

The sheetrock sanding screen (available at any home improvement store) is the way to go. The stuff builds up to fast on regular sand paper. 8)

Take her deep with some 60 for a while with a palm sander. Just watch for color changes and then switch back to 150. You'll be done before you know it. Respirator, earphones pump in some music and jam it out man. It'll be worth it.
