Replacement Controls My controls are worn out and I am starting to look into what is involved with replacing them. Basically, I have two problems: 1. It is tough to find neutral sometimes and that can be a big problem when docking 2. The throttle is very touchy (i.e. it is hard to speed up or slow down "just a little". A little adjustment of the lever usually makes a big change in the rpms and speed.) I have an I/O and the controls are original from 1980. I saw some in the West Marine catalog that look great, but I don't know what is involved with the swap. Is this something I should get a mechanic to help me with? Is there a possibility that the existing cables will can stay where they are? I don't see any physical problems with them. Or should they be replaced too? Are there certain types of controls to stay away from? I appreciate any help you can give me. Here is a link to an old picture that might help. I've updated everything that you can see except the controls: http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...mp;id=p2110015 |

Re: Replacement Controls Let me know what you find out, my controls are shot also, Mercruiser 165. I've done all the adjusting I can so I think it's cable and control time |

Re: Replacement Controls Are cables universal? I have NO experience with this. I guess I should take a closer look at where they connect at both ends. |

Re: Replacement Controls ck the ends just to be sure what you have, then you have to mesure how long they are and get as close as you can, little longer is better then shorter!! :o |

Re: Replacement Controls look on your cables for the model number it should be near one end that will tell you the ones you need. |
