Dewaxing
Ok, its 8am, just home from a night of shift work and want to get a little bit of work time in on the boat. Wanted to dewax the hull. I know there is a dewaxer agent you can buy, but was wondering if asetone would dewax the hull as well since I have some lying around and would save a few bucks to ???

Re: Dewaxing
Hammer, Acetone is what I've always heard was best for dewaxing...if you got some, then you probably already know precautions... ;)...

Re: Dewaxing
Acetone is the ticket. Dawn, Joy, most dish detergents will doit as well.

Re: Dewaxing
I would not use the assetone very often . I have been told that in time it will brake down the gelcoat . There are some mild dewaxers out there that are made for vinyl floors that will work very well . And yes , dawn , joy,ect . ,will also strip wax .

Re: Dewaxing
Hmm, ok. I was under the impression when you
"De-wax", you are removing the shine for good out of teh gell-coat. So dewaxing simply removes any wax that might have been applied to the hull. Duhhh, I gues I should have known that. |
Re: Dewaxing
My boat has been de-waxed for 5 years!! But it shines in the rain!!
