Help. Is ther a method to save aboat and motor after being underwater for 5 days. My boat up and sank tue night cause unknown at this time . Just scrambling to get it raised. Water is very cold I lasted i.5 min without wet suit. Trying to hauul boat by the bow eyelry to shallow water. Any ideas and thought are greatly appreciated. If its to much to type call my cell 7575707832. I have borrowed a wet suit. Thank the load wasn't looking forward for another swim.

Get the motor off and into a fresh water tank, and cover with water ASAP, leave it that way till you can get to work on it!

When the air gets to it thats when the crap is going to happen!!

I have a friend that had a motor down for a week two years ago and it still runs today!

Took to mariner and they flushed it all and oil everything! They did replace a few things but wasn't that bad. Better then buying a new motor!

As for the boat, run fresh water thur it and wash down, then like (I forgot who Skools?) get under cover and put a fan on a opening and let it blow 24/7 and it will dry it out in no time!

You are going to have to rewire the boat I am sure?

WHOPPER, Where you located at ? How deep ?
Have dive gear. If at a dock and in shallow water, see if the local fire dept. will lend you a pump to pump the water out. take Pics.

Just talked w/ Whopper... he hasn't gotten back to a PC yet to read your offers of help, but appreciates them a lot...


Sounds like he's got it under control ...has flotation to stick in or under the hull to get it up, then motor straight to mech and hull to fiberglass man...stuff he was gonna do anyway...


...at this point, he's not sure why she went down ...floatin' at 11 pm...on bottom next am at 6 ... he'll let us know what he finds once it's up...


...he's in a better frame of mind than I would be...I'd be goin' BERZERK :o ...

I asked him about thru-hulls...said there were none ...said he was already plannin' new transom, so somethin' mighta failed there... :P ...

could have filled to the top inside with diesel fuel and let sit hose down the outside with fresh water. but you don't want to fill with water fill block with diesel fuel like all marina's will do to pickle one after a sinking.

Or fill with Marvel Mystery oil.

My 17 sank 3 years ago. It was a 70 hp Johnson in fresh water. Was down for I don't know how long 5 - 6 hours or more?

I really hate to hear that whopper. Here's what I was instructed to do when my 17 sank. I had excellent results:

1 - As soon as I got it out on dry land I pulled all plugs and tilted motor down to let any water drain out. Next, get yourself ALOT of Marvel Mystery Oil. Tilt motor up and fill all cylinders with Mystery oil. Still in up position, turn flywheel by hand to work in the Mystery oil. Then tilt down and let the oil drain. Still in down, turn flywheel by hand to get more oil out.

2 - Repeat this procedure at least 5 times. On last time, hook to battery and turn motor over several times to blow out any remaining mystery oil.

3 - Put plugs in and crank motor.

That's what I did. I cannot in no way shape or form guarantee this but I do know of another person that did this and it was like the motor never sunk. Same way with my 70 - it actually ran better after sinking ;)

I don't know if this procedure would be recommended for a saltwater submersion, but I don't know. Depends on how much you want to pay a professional mechanic that may not be able to get any better results than you.

A boat in a slip near mine sank this season, Transom plug was expandable type w/lever, Lever corrided away, pump ran battery dead :( Crusher
