Try running it a ground on a few sand bars or mud flats. Works great for me. Just 4 or 5 more and she is ready for paint. 8)

I laughed at what Turbo said, but its true to a point. I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with my bottom paint for the last five years. I've almost worn the paint off below the water line just by running the boat. Guess I'm gonna have to do something this spring.

It's a lot of work either way. Chemical strip, sand, or pay for sida blasting.

Has anybody tried the white bottom paints on the market now, either Vivied or VC performance?

Air, I have a few gallons of the VC Performance ..... but wont be putting it on until the warm Spring weather. It seemed like the best choice to go with.

So I tried to get the bottom paint off following the precedure shown on the video. It actually worked!! Figure a couple coats of fiberglass and gelcoat it will be like new.

By the way, anyone see me on the news yesterday.

Why paint the bottom, isn't the original paint and gel coat good enough if you trailer your boat? ???

Re: Bottom Paint removal

Turbo, my boat was kept in the water by a former owner. It was bottom painted to protect against marine growth. After awhile it begins to look hideous if not repainted or, after years of repainting you've got 10 or 15 coats of paint on the boat that may weigh 100 pounds or so. People removing the bottom paint are trying to loose the weight or the looks. Most times the bottom needs to be recoated with something.
