Replacing the fish finder
Depth readings on the old fishfinder were frequentlly reading over 500 feet (not happening in the Chesapeake) so it was time to replace it.
Here's where the old one was mounted http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...7/DSC00029.jpg I pulled the old wires out with this string attached so could use it to pull the new wires. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...DSC00032-1.jpg Here's where the wires run below the starboard gunwhale http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...7/DSC00036.jpg From the holes in the helm it looks like this is the 3rd piece of equipment to be mounted up here. The previous owner used a non-skid tread to cover over the old holes. It seemed to work well so I did the same except I went with gray instead of black. I also removed the compass so I could cover the entire top, then mounted the fishfinder and re installed the compass. I also added a speedometer because the new fish finder did not have one, the hole in the dash was already there and it was easy to do at the same time. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...7/DSC00041.jpg Finally I added this "old man" step (my wifes name for it) for those occaisions when I want to climb up on the bow. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...7/DSC00042.jpg |
Re: Replacing the fish finder
Pretty work Rick. As far as you can tell were those cable runs factory installed. I can relate to the old mans step ;).

Re: Replacing the fish finder
Everything is looking good.
Question:In the picture of the pull string there is some type of mat on the deck. What is it, what is it for, where did you get it, and what is its draw backs? thank You |
Re: Replacing the fish finder
Here's the stuff, it just helps air circulation to keep the floor dry.
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...llpartial/0/0# When out on the boat there is a porta-potty there. The bungee cord on the deck is stretched across to hold the porta-potty in the forward area of that well. |
