Added My Wash Down & 5200 ?
 

Well Hammer no pics as I'm still waiting for Panasonic to return my camera. I added a wash down this past weekend and used 5200 for the first time. My question is the directions state that it takes 7 days to fully cure and it also said something about 48 hours to set up. I used it on the thru hull below the water line and did not know if I have to wait the 7 days for it to fully set up? I also read that it is only good for use within a couple of day of opening. Is this the truth and whats left over now junk?

Still running, your excused on the pics. ;D Yu did better then I did with reading the instructions for 5200. I used it this weekend as well and its still tacky and was wondering why ??, you just answered my question. I heard that there is a fast curing 5200, but never seen it.

I wondered the same thing last year. It's weird that it says it can't be used again after opening. However, a couple of guys on the forum have stated that they've used it long after initial opening. You just have to seal it well while not in use.

I bought a tube of it last Summer and used it and then sealed the end by putting a screw in the tip. I plan to use it pretty soon, but I think it will work.

As for curing time, I'm not sure what to say. It does eventually set up and when it does it looks and feels sort of like rubber.

I usually don't read instructions on stuff like that but for sealing around a thru hull which is under water I thought it would be a good idea. As I type this I'm opening up a box that UP's brought which has my camera. I've done several thing to the boat over the past couple of weeks so when its all done (this week) I'll post several pics of the V ready for summer.

Yep there is a fast cure. In 24hrs it's the same as the regular after a week.

As for using the rest of the tube it's about the same as caulking, the better you are the longer it will last. One thing we do is not cut the tip on the tube that you use with the caulking gun, we replace it when done and put in a Ziploc bag in a cool place. The same would be true for the squeeze tube.

It says it takes 7 days to cure, but the stuff cures under water. It's usually completely tack free after 3 days. It should be safe to dip by then. When you're done, put the tube in the freezer. It will be good for months. 5200 is moisture cured, the only way to keep it from curing once it has been opened is to freeze it.

It takes time, cure but there is nothing like it after it cured!!

No I have another way! Food Saver, Make a long bag, Vac seal it, stays great! ;)
