? about Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders
Looks like it's time for the next project. Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders. I'm getting some noise on hard turns and water in the bilge. Trim sender wires broke last year. So now it's time to do it all. Any suggestions on what to do, what not to do, or what kind of problem I'm likely to encounter?

Re: Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders
Before MJ gets here and says "go bracket and don;t look back" ;D, go back through repairs a little bit and do some reading. I think this job has been tackled by a couple members. We also have some guys who are good at this type of stuff. Read back though THEFERMANATOR's posts as he did a nice job documenting an Alpha1 rebuild this spring.

Re: Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders
Here's the link to when I just redid one in APRIL. I got all of my parts and tools from EBASICPOWER off Ebay(better prices on EBAY than there store). If you have noise in hard turns I would also do the U-joints, the one I redid has some noise in turns or when trimmed up high and the only thing I didn't redo was the U-joints.

Re: Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders
Thanks Air and Therm. I just revisited that post, lots of good info and pics!
MJ, I would have expected nothing less than "go bracket" from you. And it is a great idea if I was thinking of repowering. Maybe next time, but no time soon I hope. |

Re: Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders
get a long 1/4 inch drive extension, and a good 5/16 (1/4 inch drive) swivel socket, it will make the job much easier.

Re: Bellows, gimbal bearing, trim senders
It aint too bad of a job, just take your time and replace everything at one time. I ve been there and done it,had to go back in and replace the lower gimble ring bearing and pin. I wished id done it the first time, but I got it right now. If ya got any questions ,theyre a few of us I/O guys left, and would be glad to help you out.
