Transom Cap wont Fit

Problems all day today. Finished all the grinding, put the cap back on and as you can see in this Pic. It fits tight to the new transom.

But I cant get the sides to line up well. Looks as if the cap needs to slide forward, but it wont. *??? ??? ???

Looks like I have room to push the cap forward, but it doesnt budge. *??? ???
The deck is nice and flush, but decided to cut a 1/4 off the deck, thinking "the cap" would slide forward more, but it still wont slide forward.

Thinking of maybe cutting off the back lip of the cap. That might do th etrick, or maybe running straps across the top and maybe torking the traps down, that might pull and align things up. *??? ???

Come to far to quit, but I'm at a loss. I measured 10 times and cut once, the cap should fit like a condom. *:-/

Or maybe, screwing one side down first. Something is twisted. :-/ ???

is this your new transom?

it looks way to thin you need a thicker transom so your cap is forward more. slide the cap forward in place and see how the gap is at the transom.

I agree!! Transom with iner and outer skin should be close to 3"

Re: Transom Cap wont Fit

The width of the transom without measuring the inner skin is 1 7/8.

to narrow you need at least 1 more layer of 3/4 glassed on the boat.

or at the least you will have to glass a 1/2 in piece more.

The deck is flush and tight where I made the cut. I then cut an additional 1/4 off the floor/deck thinking it would slide forward, but it still wont slide forward. Gonna put a comealong on it Wednesday and see if I can pull the transom forward more. This sucks !! >:(

I'm awake, and filled up with coffee. Going back down to the V with a comealong and gonna twist and pull to see if I can straighten out the cap.
Also taking a pack of matches and a gallon of gas. >:(

easy there buddy..... it is probably something stupid in the way of sliding forward, dont torque on it too much that cap will break and splinter. take a breath, have a beer, and try again later. ;)

Re: Transom Cap wont Fit

Did some strapping today on the hull. I got her lined up pretty well. Added in some support pieces, so I can attach both sections together. I got pretty damm tired of lifting that cap on and off all day. Must be at least 150 pounds. *>:(
Bad news: I think I do need to add a bit more to the transom. Maybe 1/2 of ply. *>:( That really sucks and puts me back. Thought about just adding in resin to fill the gap, but decided to do it right...I guess. :-/ I just hope that adding in another ply doesnt close the gap to much where the gunnels meat. ???

I was glad to find my comealong. Was stashed in with my dive gear. I used it on the China Wreck once. The hull was wrapped with iron strapping, I used teh comealong to pull away the iron strapping to go farther inside the hull, hoping to find more treasure. ;D

Just about got her where I want it.
