$950 1999 used mercury lower unit worth it?
 

Recently had lower unit go out (last weekend) also happend to be my birthday and the day of my first payment...

Im looking for a cheap route to take considering i am in College full time and have limited funds. Any ideas?

It is a 25" Mercury 2001 200hp

My brother just paid $1500 to have his lower unit rebuilt on his 225 Mercury with all new seals and gears. They also did a waterpump at the same time. I thought the price was high.

there are plenty of good used 25" lowers out there( the 20's are getting hard to get). new mercury complete lower will run you $4500, Mercury Reman around $2700. I've seen used ones as low as $500, just keep looking around
