120 mercruiser
 

Hi Guys, on this new, well not new but you know....76' center console I bought, what kind of performance can I expect with the 120 mercruiser that is on it now, I have to replace the outdrive with a new one (i have 2 spares) and I am curious what to expect, I am sure that little 2.5 liter engine just sips the gas but will it get me there and back with a little style and speed

I HAVE AN I/O (VOLVO PENTA 280 W/305 V8 225HP) ALSO, MINE RUNS MID 50MPH PLUS - NOT TOO BAD ON FUEL AT A CRUISE, USUALLY FISH 2 DAYS ON A TANK - IF YOU EVERHAVE TO REPOWER - I'D LOOK INTO A BIGGER MOTOR - A BUDY OF MINE HAS A 2.5 IN A CUDDY - UPPER 20'S SPEED WISE - VERY GOOD ON FUEL

I had a 165 mercuriser when I got my boat.

It was under powered!! Yours will be also. It will top out if you are lucky 30mph WOT

But it sucks to run the boat WOT all the time so you will have to back off. You will cruz at 20 to 25 all the time.

I am going to start a new thread on this. My 165 Mercruiser does over 40 mph according to my GPS. I have done it many times and that's with two adults in the boat. I have seen 42 mph about 3 or 4 times. :)

Mirage, I would think your 120 would preform much like a 115 OB...if you can get some of the guys w/ 115s to chime in here, they can give you an idea... ;) ;D...
