Any one shooting through hull?
No, not that kind of shooting.
Is anyone using an "in-hull" transducer? Is the V's hull conducive to such? |
Re: Any one shooting through hull?
I've got an Airmar P-79 shoot thru mounted in my bilge right now. I don't use it as it didn't perform well for me. I prefered the transom mount, at least until I can get my B60-20 tilted element through hull, which should be this year.

Re: Any one shooting through hull?
I'm looking at a Uniden QT-206. It only goes 199ft. but is ideal for at a glance and in dash. Going to see if possible to mount in the bow.

Where exactly is it in the bilge? ;D |
Re: Any one shooting through hull?
My Furuno owners manual says that the in- hull Xducers loose about 15% performance, that applies to depth and ability to clearly identify fish.
I have a transom mount Airmar that I installed myself, I’ve gone for a couple of test runs and have marked fish at top speed (42mph) on the gps. |
Re: Any one shooting through hull?
I remember reading years ago of the thru hull difficulties and hope the newer transducers can overcome the old problems. The instructions said to locate it where the glass appeared the most consistant and no air voids (usually the bilge area). Also go as far as to make a container filled with mineral oil that contacted the hull or apply a sealant to the transducer and glue to the hull (again have no air voids).

Re: Any one shooting through hull?
R'Man, I'm not sure why it didn't work...I just chalked it up as an expirement gone bad. It's still mounted in the bilge, on the starboard side, maybe 10" from the keel if that far. It's only been used for 10 minutes. I've never gotten around to pulling it out. Heck, now I'm curious if the mineral oil is still in there?

Re: Any one shooting through hull?
I am using a garmin unit in mine and it works ok through hull and paint at slower speeds, say up to fifteen. I use the split screen (200/50) in mostly shallow water and it will show coral and sponges on the bottom, too.
As an edit: Mine is set in hard epoxie, about four foot from the transom and two foot from the keel. |
Re: Any one shooting through hull?
My new "high speed/low drag" transom mount ducer showed up last week while I was @ the coast so I am not going to attempt it.
