VRO

I have noticed that some people dont use the VRO on their OMC's, why is that?

I had VRO on my 1989 Evinrude 200's and it seemed to work well.

Then you were one of the lucky ones!!

There is no signal or anything to tell you that it stopped pumping oil, and when you have figured it out it is because the motor just blew!

Been there done that with my Yamaha! I will always if possible disconnect any oil injection for now on!

Re: VRO

the grey tach wire runs the VRO pump and if the rectifier stops sending the tach signal for a sec the oil stops so best to remove them.

What he said, they had a flow sensor in them but it only went off it the pump piston wasn't moving. Many times the whole thing quit and wouldn't set off the alarm. On a carb'd 2 stroke or most low pressure EFI(NOT a DFI) you can disconnect it and then you know it gets the oil.

I got a 250 YAMAHA at the house that is a prime example of what a failed oil injection system can do. But I ran the oil injection system on all of my 25HP SUZUKI's with ZERO problems.

Mixing oil/ gas is not as much PIA as dealing w/ blown powerhead ... MJ's right about your luck ;) ... when I first got my boat, it had an '86 Rude ...FIRST thing I did was have carbs rebuilt and auuto-oiler(VRO) DISCONNECTED ... they have a history and it ain't pleasant ... too many things to go wrong ... :P ...

Sounds like a good reason to run a 4 stroke.
