Barbaro euthanized
Barbaro, the Kentucky Derby winner, was euthanized on Monday morning at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine at New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa., ending an emotional, eight-month odyssey that began when he fractured his right hind leg in the Preakness Stakes.
According to a report by The Associated Press, Roy Jackson, who along with his wife, Gretchen Jackson, owned the colt, said: "We just reached a point where it was going to be difficult for him to go on without pain. It was the right decision, it was the right thing to do. We said all along if there was a situation where it would become more difficult for him then it would be time." http://www.drf.com/news/article/82201.html |

Re: Barbaro euthanized
From everything I've read he had a champion's heart AND brain. Sad to see it end this way, as he might have sired some more great horses. But they did say all along that if he began to suffer they would not go on with the treatment.

Re: Barbaro euthanized
It's a shame we can be so humane to our animals but we have to be so hard headed or non humane to our selves.
