I don't see why that is such a bad thing, except that some of the brands may be discontinued.
But before the dicontinuation, the technologies will be melded into existing products. i.e. Shakespear or Penn reels with Abu Garcia guts.

The worst that could happen is that prices will go up.

I like to have choices and this means there will be fewer (most likely). I also don't like to see the products becoming "homogenized" by fusing various brands together. Freedom of choice is what fair competition is all about. The FTC will surely get involved on this one. >:(
