This close to getting her wet...

Dragged her to a ramp at a local lake....

but decided it was a little too late...

The real point of the excercise was to road test the new running gear on the trailer....

All new disc brakes, lines, hubs, bearings, springs, hardware, tires, fenders, etc....

Here's some spare parts...

As you can see from the photos I'm going to try using the Kodial oil lubricated hubs. Has anyone else on this forum used them? Good, Bad,???

Great job!! But most have breaks on one axle, was that not good enough?

i have never used them hubs, always Berin Buddys till I got the new trailer, now it has a super lube system, were you pump grease in the front and the old comes out the back.

i haven't used oil hubs much, but the times I've worked on them(salt water use trailers) I've found the if the trailer sits for long periods( 6 months or more), then the seals usually don't seal good and the lube runs out, If the trailer is used on a regular basis, then it keeps the seal surface fresh and clean and the hubs work real good. Remeber also that dunking hot hubs into cold water supposably will pull water in past the seals, i don't know if its true or not, but I've heard it alot. Worse come to worse, just pack grease into the hubs intead of lube, just change out the caps to sure lube type

Great job on the new brakes and suspension...I need to do the same ... several years back, I put discs on all 4 wheels also...I figure if yer gonna do it, do it ALL THE WAY ;) ... and even more important on a bigger load like yer 250...

I've not used the oil-lube hubs, but also hear important to maintain seals ;) ...

How'd the road-test go?...

mj,

If I put brakes on only one axle then which axle should I put them on? I've seen that topic beaten to death elsewhere.

Honestly, while I felt the Suburban should pull the rig I was a little concered about pushing the limits. After the test drive up and down Dead Horse Hill and out on I-290 I'm relieved, especialy with the braking performance. It feels like a much smaller boat back there.

spare and reel,

I'll be keeping an eye on 'em. I'll carry extra oil as well as grease and on longer trips a spare hub and bearigs. Their design should make it easier to spot a problem earlier than with grease.

Willy,

I'm taking Friday off for the sea trial. Will do a local lake just to check out the motor and mechanical stuff. If everything is good to go or if it's only minor things to fix then I'd like to get in the salt Sat. or Sunday,Whooooooo-Hoooooooo!

Dont let me forget the....

Nice job you done on the trailer's "drivetrain". We look forward to seeing how it goes. 8)

I pull a 30'amper and it has eletric brakes on all four, and it stops the truck!
Nothing like knowing you going to stop when you have to!!
It was just I heard that most do the front only, so I tought I would ask.

Tally, Nice job!

I am planning on adding disc brakes to my single axle trailer this winter. Where did you get your set-up and roughly how much $ per axle? I will need the whole set-up from the coupler back. Also I see you are from Worcestor County, I grew up in Southbridge but now live in Woodstock Ct just over the line. Maybe we could hook up sometime and do a fishing trip and have some fun.
