For all you Picture Mo's
We went out on Saturday with a friend of my oldest son and her Mom. They have never spent much time in Boston and none of it on a boat so it was fun to act as a tour guide of sorts. We launched at 9:00AM and didn't get back to the ramp until 11:00PM. In addition to sight seeing we tried some fishing just outside the harbor. There were too many highlights to detail them all but here's a sampling...
As we headed out into the harbor we wondered why the USS Constitution wasn't in her berth. That's the Bunker Hill Monument in the background. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715a/33a.jpg We found out soon enough... http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/01.jpg Open Fire! http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/05.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/07.jpg Fort Independence on Castle Island in South Boston on the background. Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger supposedly did much of his plotting there thinking that it would be difficult for the authorities to bug the location. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/11.jpg Not quite a bone in her teeth but it was interesting to see her actually moving. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/16.jpg Speaking of bones, here is Abigail, our 4th child. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715b/03b.jpg The Constitution heading back to her berth in Charlestown with the Boston skyline in the background. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/17.jpg Spotted this guy with a 250. He didn't even wave. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/26.jpg I thought this was the same boat but now that I look the Bimini is different and it looks like an I/O. Two fellow 250's in a row! http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/23.jpg This is Graves Lighthouse on the outermost land at the entrance to Boston Harbor. Though not really visible in the picture the Boston skyline can be seen behind it less than 10 miles away. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715b/09b.jpg While we were outside we tried some bottom fishing. The kids thought it was cool that we caught "Sharks" but the dogfish pretty much ruled out our chances at any good ground fish. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715a/52a.jpg On the way back Old Ironsides was back where she belonged... http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715b/18b.jpg This is a fun place to stop on the way back. The Cambridgeside Galleria Mall. Food court, restrooms and shopping for the girls! http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/37.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/33.jpg A couple of sunset pics... http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715a/66a.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715a/72a.jpg We went to see the concert on the esplanade. Even though the docks were full getting there by boat is still the best way... http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/43.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/46.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/52.jpg Okay, did ya' spot the V? The Hatch Shell, home to the Boston Pops 4th O' July Concert. http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/49.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/2007_0715/55.jpg See ya' on the water... Steve P. |

Re: For all you Picture Mo's
CY,
By the time we got ashore the V was still there but the Captain was no where to be found. Nice looking boat though. Shawsee, Getting around Boston by boat is a breeze compared to the roads, but there are still traffic lights to deal with... http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/21.jpg http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/28.jpg However they don't use the "Speed Up" signal (yellow light) on the water for some reason??? Re: For all you Picture Mo's
LOL Steve, boat traffic lights, who would have thought. :D

Re: For all you Picture Mo's
Yo Monk. Great Pics.....you posting Ho you. LOL. ;D
Super pics. Never been to Boston, The history of Boston and the shipping...the diving my be great up there. ;D |
Re: For all you Picture Mo's
Hammer, there is some great diving up here. One of the best spots is right off that lighthouse in the pic...
http://www.bostonharbordivingcompany.com/divesites.html There are also many more wrecks beyond what they list. I got certified around 25 years ago but only dove a handful of times after that. I found it facinating but I don't know if it's claustrophobia or what but I'd get uneasy enough at times to make me drop it as a hobby. That was when I lived in Cambridge, I moved here to Leicester almost 20 years ago and it figures that this little town has a dive shop with pool and is 50 miles from the ocean! If you make it up this way I'd be glad to have you out on the boat to do some diving. Lefty wouldn't let you come alone, would she? Steve P. |
