Atlanta Airport

Atlanta Airport

You gotta love this one even if you've never lived in the South. Southerners can be so polite!

Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Saudi Air 911, you are cleared to land eastbound on Runway 9R."

Saudi Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. Acknowledge cleared to land on infidel's Runway 9R. Allah be Praised."

Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Iran Air 711, you are cleared to land westbound on Runway 9R."

Iran Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. We are cleared to land on infidel's Runway 9R. Allah is Great."

Pause...

Saudi Air: " ATLANTA ATC - ATLANTA ATC"

Atlanta ATC: "Go ahead Saudi Air 911."

Saudi Air: "YOU HAVE CLEARED BOTH OUR AIRCRAFT FOR THE SAME RUNWAY GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. WE ARE ON A COLLISION COURSE. INSTRUCTIONS, PLEASE."

Atlanta ATC: "Well bless your hearts. And praise Jesus. Y'all be careful now and tell Allah "hey" for us, y'a hear?"

That's pretty good.

But as a Southerner, I've got to say that the worst part of my recent travels was the Atlanta airport. The help (airline, food service) was downright rude. No smiles, no eye contact, mumbling answers. I kept thinking, "If I was a Yankee and came here, I'd swear that Southern Hospitality was a myth."

I recently flew out of Atl...1st flight since 9-11...I'd rather drive 9 hours than fly one...the flyin's OK...the airports, especially Atl/Delta are nuts...flyin' outta Jax was a piece of cake...

Re: Atlanta Airport

All the airports a crazy now,
the airlines found that they could cut back their schedules,
fill the planes like cattle cars and then they make money.

Just let some weather blow in though and everything gets shot to he77.

Is Miami airport considered southern?
There is definately no southern hospitality there.

If my destination was ATL or MIA and I got off the plane and everyone was rude and nasty I'd think that we were having mechanical problems and had to return Logan airport!

Re: Atlanta Airport

PLS DON'T GET ME WRONG, IN MIAMI, PEOPLE ARE NOT RUDE (UNLESS YOU'RE DRIVING IN OUR ENDLESS TRAFFIC JAMS) BUT AS IN ANY OTHER BIG CITY, PEOPLE ARE NO OPENLY FRIENDLY. I RECENTLY VISIT NEW YORK
AND, AFTER HEARING ALL KIND OF B.S. ABOUT NEW YORKERS, EVERY BODY THAT WE APROACH WERE PRETTY HELPFUL, NOW, IF YOU'RE GOING TO SAY HI TO EVERYBODY YOU SEE THERE, YOU'LL DIE.

I WORKED AT MIA FOR 10 YEARS AND IT'S NOT THAT BAD.

Re: Atlanta Airport

LESTUR,

If you read my post, I am just picking Miami because that was the last airport I was in.
In my travels, I have been to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Reagan, Dallas, houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Nagoya,
Caracas, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Cordoba, Tokyo, Charlotte, Dayton, Cincinatti, Atlanta, Detroit, Min St. Paul, Mexico city, Chicago, Fort Wayne, South Bend, to name a few.
Depending on the time of day, weather conditions, actual day of the week
and depending on the mood of the people,
the staff could be very hospitable or just plan nasty.

Travelers themselves really can set the tone for their own treatment.
Like the guy in the business suit who's flight is canceled
due to weather conditions and flips on the counter staff
that he just has to be at his destination. He gets nowhere.
I walk up next and stat joking with the staff about the last guy,
I know that no bdy is going anywhere, so I just make lemonade and even get extra flyer miles and sometimes a first class upgrade.
