Livewells??
 

do any of you guys have livewells on your boats. I have to have them for bait due to the type of fishing I do.I am thinking of putting my livewells in the rear floor holes. I think this is a good location for them since it is low and in the rear. What do yall think and where do yall have them at.?I would rather have them transom mounted, but mine has this full aluminum plate across the back and it will stop that.It sortof a big cap.

My live well is on the top of the port side of the transom. It's only a small one, used by me for minnows when fishing for perch. Bill Mc

My '86 has a baitwell below the deck at the stern where a non-bracket outboard well would be (I have a bracket).

Forward in-deck compartment in my '87 has a plumbed livewell. Pretty big one, too. Just eyeballing it, I'd estimate it at 45 gallons. I don't happen to fish bait, so it'll either be a fishbox or a food/drink cooler. Unfortunately, I think it drains into the bilge, so I'd have to put in a macerator pump to empty it. It might just end up being a place to stow PFDs, so "The Man" is satisfied that they're easily accessible.

If had a need for a livewell, I think I'd make or buy one to make it part livewell, part seat base for one of the helm chairs.

I made one from a 55 gal barrel and bring it with me all the time!!

I use alot of live scup, and when I can get them herrin, but the Herrin laws here suck so I have stooped using them!! Its not worth the effort and the Bull $hit

But the scup are all over the place!! But they are to be 10"!! But I use the small 4" to 8", I caught 2 13 pound Fluke on scup the year before last!!

CB had a great set up!! A leaning post with a tank built into it!!
Dumb fool sold the boat right after he installed it, and then let it go with the boat?? Some times he baffles me!! ;)

;D I like to keep it that way. And besides......anytime you can make money, let alone get your money back by selling a boat, you're ahead of the game. Move on and up. ;) You know what's in the works and just jealous. :-*

I had a well in the forward casting deck on my CC, but it was more of a fish hold than a livewell.

Best place for a good-sized livewell is amidships.

My v21 has a livewell as the base for the seat behind the captains seat. The base of the port seating is a fishbox. I am happy with this arrangement. The weight is as close to the center of gravity as possible and is balanced by the fishbox when full or crew members. It is also easy to access.

I don't think you want a large livewell in the stern for weight distribution reasons. I have my big motor, remote oil tank, kicker motor with bracket, 2 batteries with switch, and a 6 rod rod holder at my stern. That is enuff weight for the *** end.

Stinky, I don't remember what year your v20 is, but the older ones have drainage issues and low transoms. Put a big livewell in the back and you will make it worse. You will likely also need tabs to trim correctly when underway with the livewell full, if it is in the stern. If I had one of the older v20's I would put the livewell under the capt chair and another fuel tank under the port seating. Keep the livewell above the cockpit sole so you don't need a pump to drain it.

Probably, I'll defer to the retro crew on that one. ;) Or better yet, you should do a search under "drains" and read all about it.

Regardless, amidships is the best location for a large livewell, in my not so humble opinion. :)
